Bladeback boars were a rare and aggressive race of zucca boar, an animal native to the desert planet of Tatooine.[1]

In 1 ABY,[3] one such bladeback boar terrorized residents of Tatooine, but was vanquished by a heroic spacer who was then awarded the Mark of Courage.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Bladeback boars appeared in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[4]

Wild bladeback boars were added to the game as part of the "Hero of Tatooine" questline,[1] released with "Publish 9" on June 29, 2004.[5] In the original version of the questline, the creature spawned at random places across the planet Tatooine and players taking part in the "Courage" segment of the "Hero of Tatooine" had to find one such bast and kill it.[1] The "Hero of Tatooine" questline was extensively revamped upon the introduction of the "Publish 25," a.k.a. the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005,[6] and wild bladeback boars were removed from the game by mistake. The questline was therefore broken and impossible to finish until bladeback boars were restored with the "Chapter 2.3" update, released on August 16, 2006.[7] The new version of the quest was significantly easier since wild bladeback boars now spawned at specific locations.[2]

Therefore, the events of Star Wars Galaxies must span from 0 ABY to around 1 ABY.
