Trade Federation Blast Door Episode I

Blast doors on a Trade Federation starship

A blast door,[1] or shield door,[2] was a type of secured door[1] that was used in numerous types of facilities, including military installations[2] and starships.[3]

History[]

"Shields are back online. Get out of there! The blast doors will close in seconds."
―Commander Tacks[4]

When the Trade Federation blockaded the planet Naboo, blast doors were used aboard their Lucrehulks.[3] These ships also contained external blast doors over entrances to the reactor, that would fail and open if the control tower was damaged; a result of a key structural flaw.[4]

During the Clone Wars, the Rishi Station on the Rishi Moon had blast doors that were infiltrated by the Separatist Alliance in a short battle.[5]

On a massive space station known as the Death Star—during the reign of the Galactic Empire—blast doors were used to secure the station's hangar bays.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The sound for the doors opening and closing was created via paper sliding into and out of an envelope.[6] The book Star Wars: Battles that Changed the Galaxy confirmed that "shield door" and "blast door" refer to the object by calling[7] the Echo Base shield doors[2] and Crait outpost shield door[8] blast doors.[7]
