- "Sir, we're taking heavy fire."
"Close the blast shields, lieutenant. Get us under those guns!" - ―A clone pilot lieutenant and Jedi General Anakin Skywalker
Blast shields were a type of physical shielding employed on the Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry, a model of LAAT gunship used by the Republic Military during the Clone Wars against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The blast shielding was not always employed, being able to close over the gunship if ordered. During the Battle of Teth[1] in 22 BBY,[2] Jedi General Anakin Skywalker ordered Clone Lieutenant Hawk, a pilot of his LAAT/i, to close the blast shielding in response to heavy Separatist fire from the battle droids stationed at the Teth Monastery. The gunship was able to reach the ground intact, allowing Skywalker and the others on the LAAT/i to participate in the rest of the battle.[1]
