"Who? The Arakein Monks. Word is they'll put anyone's name in their Book of the Dead, and they remember forever."
―An Imperial starfighter pilot, to Vitale[1]

The Book of the Dead was a rumored text said to be owned by the Arakein Monks. During the Battle of Jakku[1] in 5 ABY,[2] a pilot of the Galactic Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing joined a game of Who? What? Where?[1]—in which the participants listed who they wanted to be the first to learn of their death, what they thought would cause the death, and where they thought it would take place[3]—over a comm channel with the enemy New Republic pilot Vitale. Choosing the Arakein Monks for who first learned of their death, the Imperial pilot claimed that the monks wrote deceased individuals' names in the Book of the Dead and that they would remember the individual forever.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

The Book of the Dead was mentioned in the 2021 novel Victory's Price, written by Alexander Freed.[1]
