"I got what I thought was a deal on this ship."
―Bosbit Matarcher, on his faulty Delemedian starhopper[1]

Bosbit Matarcher was a Human male from the astronomical object Delemede who, after a relativistic shield malfunction during a brief hyperspace jump aboard a Delemedian starhopper in 222 BBY, found himself two hundred years in the future. The unusual journey brought Matarcher brief fame, netting him a minor HoloNet News interview. However, Matacher was actually delighted at the mishap—when he had left in 222 BBY, Delemede was dilapidated, but by the time of his return in 22 BBY, the planet was flourishing.

Biography[]

"I engaged the jump drive for a trip in outsystem. It took about two hours. When I got out, it was 200 years later."
―Bosbit Matarcher[1]

Bosbit Matarcher was a Human male from[1] the astronomical object[3] Delemede who was born[1] around 247 BBY.[2] When he was twenty-five years old[1] in 222 BBY,[2] Matarcher bought a Delemedian starhopper, believing he had gotten a great deal for the starship. However, when he engaged the hyperdrive to take a quick jump outsystem, the relativistic shield on the starhopper—which was supposed to protect Matarcher from the strange bends in time and space associated with traveling at such hypervelocity—malfunctioned. The journey to leave the Delemede system took a mere two hours for Matarcher and he eventually exited hyperspace. However, he found that to the outside galaxy, 200 years had passed,[1] making it 22 BBY,[2] and resulting in him being 225 standard years old.[1]

A brief interview with Matarcher was published in an edition of HoloNet News CoCo District Edition about his unique experience. He expressed his plans to return to his home—this time by normal transit—while also expressing excitement in returning to a thriving Delemede that had been run-down when he had departed.[1]

Personality and traits[]

"Well, truth to tell, when I left, home was pretty shoddy and run down, but now Delemede is a thriving place. I can't wait to get back, but this time I'll fly transit."
―Bosbit Matarcher[1]

After traveling 200 years through time, he was happy that the malfunction had occurred since he could now return to Delemede, which was thriving when it had not been in the past. Matarcher had brown hair, gray eyes, and light skin.[1]

Equipment[]

Matarcher wore yellow-and-black colored clothing.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Bosbit Matarcher was first mentioned in "225-year Old Man's Secret? Time Dilation" an article[1] written by Pablo Hidalgo and Paul Ens[4] and published in HoloNet News Vol. 531 #48 on the HoloNet News website[1] on March 21, 2002.[5] According to Hidalgo, his creation was made as a reference to "134-Year-Old Man Attributes Longevity To Typographical Error," an article published in the real-world satirical publication The Onion.[6]
