The Braha'tok was a Braha'tok-class gunship, under the command of Kiles L'toth, in the Dornean Navy. In 4 ABY, during the height of the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, Dornea loaned the Braha'tok—along with its sister ship, the Torktarak—to the Alliance Fleet for its attack on the second Death Star—an Imperial superweapon that could destroy entire planets—above the forest moon of Endor. During the battle, the MC80 Liberty type Star Cruiser Liberty was destroyed by the second Death Star's superlaser, and, trying to save survivors, L'toth moved the Braha'tok into a defensive formation to cover rescue craft. While providing cover, the Braha'tok engaged the Carrack-class light cruiser Eminence, and with the help of the Torktarak, it was able to destroy the Eminence. However, the Braha'tok took extensive damage during battle, and after the Alliance's victory at Endor, it was shipped back to Dornea to serve as a war museum.

Description

Manufactured by the Dornean Braha'ket Fleetworks Conglomerate, the Braha'tok was a Braha'tok-class gunship in the Dornean Navy during the Galactic Civil War between the Alliance to Restore the Republic and the Galactic Empire. The Braha'tok was ninety meters long and was equipped with eight double turbolasers and eight concussion missiles. It possessed limited hangar space and lacked ground troop complement. The ship came equipped with fire control, maneuvering, and command capabilities, all of which were centralized in the bridge.[1] The Braha'tok was also equipped with engines that were capable of making the jump to hyperspace.[2]

A Braha'tok-class gunship

In 4 ABY, the Alliance Fleet asked Dornea—which had been fighting its own private war against the Empire for years—for battleships to assist them in their upcoming assault on the second Death Star,[1] an Imperial superweapon that could destroy an entire planet, which was still under construction while orbiting the forest moon of Endor.[2] The Dorneans decided to send the Braha'tok along with its sister ship, the Torktarak, under the command of Kiles L'toth and Etahn A'baht, respectively. Since the Braha'tok-class gunships had not been outside of the space surrounding Dornea before 4 ABY, and to avoid arousing the suspicion of Imperial Intelligence, the Dornean government claimed that the two ships were undergoing a "shakedown cruise."[1]

The Braha'tok and the Torktarak met up with the Alliance Fleet orbiting Sullust, which was under the command of the Mon Calamarian Admiral Gial Ackbar. Both of the Braha'tok gunships left with the Alliance fleet for the Endor system.[1] However, when the Alliance fleet came out of hyperspace over Endor, they were caught in a trap devised by Emperor Palpatine. The Alliance discovered that the shield protecting the second Death Star, which was supposed to have been taken down by a ground unit that had already landed on Endor, was still up. Also, the Alliance fleet was met by a large Imperial fleet under the command of Admiral Firmus Piett, which trapped them in the system.[2]

The Alliance fleet engaged the Imperials, hoping the shield generator would be taken down by the ground strike team before the Imperial fleet defeated them.[2] During the space battle, the MC80 Liberty type Star Cruiser Liberty was destroyed by the Death Star's superlaser, which the Alliance hadn't known was functional. In order to provide cover for the rescue shuttles picking up survivors, L'toth moved the Braha'tok into a defensive formation. While providing cover, the Braha'tok held off the Carrack–class cruiser Eminence, which was more than three times the size of the Braha'tok. The ship took extensive damage while engaging the Eminence, but the Braha'tok and the Torktarak were able to destroy the Eminence after the Torktarak attacked the Imperial warship from behind.[1]

After the Eminence was destroyed, the Torktarak continued to provide cover for the damaged Braha'tok while it continued its search-and-rescue mission.[1] The Alliance fleet eventually destroyed the second Death Star and won the battle after the superweapon's shields were finally disabled by the ground team on Endor.[2] Following the battle, Ackbar wished to scuttle the severely damaged Braha'tok. However, upon the insistence from the Dornean Navy, it was returned to Dornea to be converted into a war museum.[1]

Commanders and crew

The Braha'tok had a crew of seventy-five Dornean navy personnel under the command of Kiles L'toth. After the Battle of Endor, the Braha'tok's conversion into a war museum led to L'toth's retirement from the Dornean navy.[1]

The Braha'tok was created in Ello137's winning entry in the StarWars.com Hyperspace feature, "What's The Story?". The campaign allowed fans to provide the backstory for certain aspects of the saga; in this case, the Braha'tok-class gunships. Originally, Ello137 intended the ship's name to be a mythical Dornean name, but was unable to fit it into the "flow" of his final entry.[3] The information on the Braha'tok from Ello137's entry was later used in the entry on the Braha'tok-class gunship included in the reference book The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia.

In Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, a Braha'tok-class gunship appears in the background during the space battle over Endor. However, the gunship has never been identified as either the Braha'tok or the Torktarak.
