C-3PO, picking up an overpowering transmission from R2-D2 on his broadband antenna.
A broadband antenna was a communications device that was capable of monitoring all broadcast and communications frequencies.[1] Droids fitted with broadband antennas could receive transmissions directly from other droids.[2] Protocol droids such as the 3PO series and astromech droids such as the R5-series astromech droid were fitted with broadband antennas and receivers.[3] Broadband antennas could also be fitted to helmets; Boba Fett had a broadband antenna installed in his armor's helmet that allowed him to intercept and unscramble comlink and starship communications traffic.[4]
