The Bryar pistol was a modified Bryar rifle with its stock and muzzle sawed down.
This pistol was the preferred weapon of the mercenary-turned Rebel operative Kyle Katarn.[2][3]
Description[]
It was a highly accurate blaster though it was not a very powerful one; and although its power diminished over distance, it retained its accuracy,[3] making it a choice for sniping.[4] The blaster has an interesting ability to "charge up" and fire one large blast at the expense of its ammunition.
History[]

Kyle Katarn's Bryar pistol

Gorc walking into a point where he'd be open for Katarn to shoot him.
Kyle got his Bryar pistol from his father Morgan Katarn as a parting gift before leaving for the Imperial Academy, in which his father had sawed down it's rifle form to make it more fashioned.[3] Katarn carried it with him after his graduation and his recruitment by the Alliance on the New Hope and his first Mission to Danuta, where he was able to find and use other weapons to his arsenal against the Stormtroopers. Katarn continued to carry it along the Dark Trooper campaign.[5] Katarn continued to carry it for his personal protection when he met 8t88 in the Rimmer's Rest on Nar Shaddaa and continued to carry it even when after he received Qu Rahn's lightsaber, until the mission to Ruusan. [6] Katarn had even used it to kill Gorc, who had walked straight into the blaster-fire of the bryar pistol
Max, a savage bunny-like creature, also used a Bryar pistol.[6]
Soon after getting adopted into Jedi training,[6] Katarn continued to carry the blaster as a backup weapon, unlike other Jedi who normally eschewed blasters. He returned to it after severing his ties to the New Jedi Order and continued to use it extensively.[3]
Behind the scenes[]
- "I got [the name for Bryar pistol] from a composer Gavin Bryars. […] I just liked the name and it sounded great."
- ―Justin Chin

The Bryar pistol was created by Justin Chin, owing its name to composer Gavin Bryars.[7]
The "charge-up" feature of the Bryar pistol was not available until its appearance in Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast, in which the weapon also fired yellow blaster bolts instead of the red of previous games. This, along with slight variances in the weapon's name throughout the series (in order: "modified Bryar pistol," "Bryar pistol," "Bryar blaster pistol"), has led to some ambiguity as to whether it was a new model in the Bryar line or the same gun used in the previous games.
