Byd Chillings was a male Ithorian who lived during the Galactic Civil War. After the Battle of Yavin, he was part of a group of slicers that was based in a building not far from Nym's Stronghold, on the planet Lok. The group also included Skaelor Tay and Kelson Sharphorn. He wore glasses and was armed with a Striker pistol.[1]

This section of the article assumes 100% game completion. Any alternate stories may be noted in the "Behind the scenes" section. The events in this section may or may not have been confirmed as canon within the Star Wars Legends continuity.

In 1 ABY,[3] he narrowly escaped potential injuries or death when the Corellian technology-hating Meatlump terrorists planted an explosive device in the slicers' house. A spacer who had infiltrated the Meatlump gang found the bomb in time and defused it.[4]

Behind the scenes[]

Byd Chillings was a non-player character (NPC) in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[1] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[5]

Byd Chillings and the Lok slicers were added to the game with the update dubbed "Chapter 10: The Search for the Meatlump King," released on June 19, 2008.[6] Byd Chillings and other slicer NPCs were not part of any quest but they were indirectly involved in the so-called "Meatlumps Theme Park". In the basement of the Slicer House, there was a bomb that the player had to defuse as part of the quest "Muddle the Meatlumps." While there were several slicer NPC enemies in the house, none of them had to be killed for the mission.[4] "Chronicle Relics" could be looted from them. Such relics could be used by players in the Chronicle Quest system to create their own quests for other players. By using the relics related to the slicer NPCs, the quests would task the player with killing Byd Chillings or other slicers in the house.[7] Chillings was a Level 56 Gold Elite NPC, which meant that he was considerably stronger and harder to kill than normal NPCs at this level.[1]

  3. According to its opening crawl, Star Wars Galaxies was set sometime after Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. The only precise time indication in the game was given by the character Ruwan Tokai, who referenced the destruction of the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin as occurring one year earlier, placing the game sometime around 1 ABY. Later, multiple elements confirmed the placement of the game storyline in 1 ABY. First, The Essential Reader's Companion established that the tie-in novel Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine took place in 1 ABY. Furthermore, the game expansion Star Wars Galaxies: Rage of the Wookiees was set during the Blockade of Kashyyyk, one year after the Battle of Yavin according to The Star Wars Holiday Special. Additionally, the main scenario of The Nightsister's Revenge from the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game was set over a year before the Battle of Hoth (3 ABY), so around 1.5 ABY. Finally, the reference book Strongholds of Resistance placed the events of Star Wars Galaxies's Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" one year after the Battle of Yavin. Of note, Galaxies's Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" introduced the Battle of Hoth in the game. However, the developers were quite clear that this was only intended to be a completely isolated "Star Wars Moment" without any effect on continuity for the rest of the game.
