- "Kay, tell him you're with CIS Special Operations."
"Uh, I'm CIS. Special ops. I'm here to help." - ―ND-5 advises Kay Vess on gaining MT-7's trust
CIS Special Operations was a special forces branch active as part of the Confederacy of Independent Systems' military during the Clone Wars, a galactic conflict between the CIS and Galactic Republic.
Description[]
As part of the Confederacy military, CIS Special Operations supported the Confederacy of Independent Systems government and greater military apparatus.[1] While the Separatist military was overwhelming composed of droids, it did employ a limited number of organic personnel.[3] Indeed, organic operatives, who could answer to ranks such as lieutenant, existed amongst the special operations personnel.[1]
History[]
BX-series droid commandos were special forces units active during the Clone Wars.
CIS Special Operations was active during the Clone Wars,[1] a galaxy-wide war between the Confederacy of Independent Systems and Galactic Republic[3] that raged from 22 BBY to 19 BBY.[2] Special forces units deployed by the Confederacy included the BX-series droid commando,[4] which was deployed both into large-scale battle alongside other Separatist Droid Army units[5] and into smaller-scale commando missions,[4] and organic operatives.[1] For example, elite Skakoan commandos from the Techno Union served the Separatist war machine despite the Union's alleged neutrality in the Clone Wars.[6]
The Clone Wars would end in 19 BBY[2] with the collapse of the CIS[7] and transformation of the Republic into the Galactic Empire. The Confederacy military was defeated with the state,[8] resulting in the dissolution of CIS Special Operations.[2] Decades after the war[1] in 3 ABY[9] on the planet Akiva, the human criminal Kay Vess discovered the still-functioning but heavily damaged BX unit MT-7, who failed to realize the war was over and remained steadfast in completing his mission. At the suggestion of her partner-in-crime and fellow BX unit ND-5, Vess claimed she was part of CIS Special Operations to gain MT-7's trust. Afterward, Vess—whose alleged rank in the special operations branch was lieutenant—and ND-5 completed MT-7's final mission to give the damaged BX droid peace, with ND-5 then introducing himself to the fallen commando as a commander and allowing MT-7 to stand down at long last. Afterward, ND-5 and Vess talked about what it would have been like for Vess to have served under ND-5's command during the war.[1]
