- "I accompanied the Inquisitor Ninth Sister to Cabarria to investigate a Jedi sighting. While there, I was attacked by mercenaries. I was the target of a kill order."
- ―Darth Vader, to Emperor Palpatine
Cabarria was a planet in the Colonies and the Interior regions where the Sith Lord Darth Vader and the Inquisitor Ninth Sister traveled to investigate a reported Jedi sighting at a bar in 19 BBY. However, Vader instead walked into a trap set by the Chas, a bounty hunter family that had been hired to kill him. The Chas were able to disarm Vader, but the Sith Lord instead used patrons as both shields and projectiles, soon forcing the bounty hunters to flee.
Vader pursued the Chas in a speeder chase until he was able to ground the family, making the parents Bhada and Ramat Cha help him find out who hired them by threatening the life of their daughter, Chanath Cha. Chanath was made to swear to forget the encounter and flee in order to survive while her parents located the origin of the kill order on Vader. Once given the information he needed, Vader slew Bhada and Ramat, Chanath bearing witness from afar, and left for the planet Coruscant.
Description[]
Cabarria was a planet[6] located in an intersecting portion of the Colonies[1] and the Interior regions,[2] in grid square M-13 of the Standard Galactic Grid. It was situated along the Corellian Trade Spine[3] super-hyperroute[7] between the astronomical objects Nantoon and Corellia.[3] Clouds and a yellow celestial body were visible in Cabarria's sky. In the planet's[1] Type I atmosphere[4]—which was breathable to humans and other species—were floating freeways for speeders as well as buildings including a bar.[1]
History[]
The Chas' trap[]
- "This is the location?"
"Yeah. This is it. Bar fight in here, few days ago. Someone reported seeing a person use the Force to get out of it. Said they maybe even had a lightsaber. Not many details. This is definitely the spot, though." - ―Darth Vader and the Ninth Sister
In 19 BBY,[8] during the time of the Galactic Empire, the Chas, a family of bounty hunters consisting of the couple Bhada and Ramat Cha and their[1] twelve-year-old daughter[9] Chanath Cha, were hired through the Hunter Net[1] by a pair of high-ranking Imperial officers to kill Darth Vader, a Sith Lord and Emperor Palpatine's new enforcer.[5] The Chas set a trap at the bar at Cabarria, with a falsified Jedi sighting being reported to lure Vader there. While the bounty hunters waited inside the bar, Vader and the Inquisitor Ninth Sister arrived at an outside parking area. The Ninth Sister questioned why Vader had gone out of his way to pursue a likely false Jedi sighting, claiming that he was eager to fight another Jedi. Vader was dismissive of the claims and had the Inquisitor remain at their speeders while he entered the bar.[1]
Inside, Vader approached the patrons and demanded information on the supposed Jedi. Awaiting the Sith Lord, whom they thought to be another Jedi, the Chas sprung their trap, Chanath using a tractor rifle to try and take away Vader's lightsaber. Vader accidentally destroyed the lightsaber while pulling it back with the Force, and Ramat used an ion grenade to disable all weapons in the bar sans those of the Chas. Bhada and Ramat used their ion blast as leverage to advise the other patrons not to interfere with their hunt, but Vader instead began lifting and choking the bystanders with the Force, using them as shields and projectiles when the Chas began firing at him from the cover of their personal shields. The Sith Lord also contacted the Ninth Sister for help, but she pretended the ion pulse had affected her comlink.[1]
Vader strikes back[]
- "Do you remember Cabarria, Vader? Two decades ago, on a lonely stretch of skyway. A family. A man, a woman and a girl of 12. You killed my mother. Her name was Ramat Cha. You killed my father. His name was Bhada Cha. My name is Chanath Cha, and that day, I vowed to end your life."
- ―Chanath Cha confronts Darth Vader about the events at Cabarria
As the fighting continued, the Chas chose to retreat as their deflector shields were being depleted of power and a growing number of patrons were being killed. They fled for a speeder and held the Ninth Sister at gunpoint as they hijacked one of them. The trio then sped away before Vader exited the bar, accusing the Inquisitor of setting up the trap. When the Ninth Sister denied the claims, the Sith Lord, taking the Inquisitor's lightsaber, had her stay at the parking area while he took a speeder to pursue the bounty hunters. Vader quickly caught up with the Chas, who fired back at their pursuer. Deflecting their blaster bolts with his borrowed lightsaber, Vader used the weapon to steer a large vehicle off-course and onto the Chas' speeder.[1]
The Chas used their shields to avoid being crushed by the crashing vehicle, but the crash allowed Vader to reach the three and hold Chanath at saber-point. The Sith Lord demanded to know who hired the bounty hunters, so Ramat offered to slice the Hunter Net, negotiating for Chanath to be released before she could locate the exact origin location of the kill order on Vader.[1]
After Chanath was let go, her parents had her swear to forget about their encounter with Vader and flee. With her daughter leaving, Ramat located the origin of the kill order to the top of the Imperial Executive Building on[1] the planet[10] Coruscant. Having acquired the information,[1] Vader then killed Bhada and Ramat[11] and left for Coruscant with the Ninth Sister.[5] Chanath watched her parents' deaths from afar[11] and vowed to kill Vader on that day. She eventually confronted the Sith Lord[9] between 3 ABY and 4 ABY,[12] where she brought up the events on Cabarria. Chanath attempted to kill Vader to avenge her parents, but the Sith Lord killed her first.[9]
