The Cairn Installation was a massive asteroid base that was affiliated with the Empire Reborn. It was located inside Cairn, an asteroid within the Lenico Belt.
History[]

Carved out of the rock of the stable asteroid, the base housed the cortosis-processing facilities of Galak Fyyar's forces, specifically his shadowtroopers. The factory was also responsible for turning out the numerous dropships, stocked with stormtroopers and AT-STs, which Fyyar planned to launch against the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin 4.
In 12 ABY, Kyle Katarn and Luke Skywalker infiltrated the facility during the search for Desann. Katarn traveled through the hangars and the enormous reactor core, and battled various Reborn Dark Jedi. Later, Katarn managed to sneak aboard the Doomgiver just as it was leaving, sabotaging its systems as it was en route to its intended target.
Behind the scenes[]
Two missions from Jedi Knight II featuring the Cairn Installation were cut from the retail version of the game: cairn_docks2 and cairn_stockpile. Evidence of these missions exists within the game's files. A cairn is a term derived from Scottish Gaelic that refers to artificial stone piles in the real world.
