Book I, Part II CAPTAIN PHASMA |
---|
Flying their TIE/sf space superiority fighter through space, Captain Phasma and First Order TIE fighter pilot TN-3465 pursue the fugitive Lieutenant Sol Rivas. Phasma orders TN-3465 to close in on Rivas' TIE fighter so that she can shoot him only to discover that the droid BB-K8 had failed to complete the reapirs to the laser cannon. Phamsa kicks BB-K8 in frustration before ordering TN-3465 to keep a distance from Rivas' fighter.
Phasma and TN-3465 follow Rivas to Luprora, an Unknown Regions world which the First Order reported as having unsuitable environmental conditions. After landing their TIE fighter on the rocky, oceanic world, the two track Rivas' TIE/fo space superiority fighter to the east. While navigating the planet, Phasma instructs TN-3465 to carry BB-K8 since the globular droid is unable to navigate the rocky, mountainous terrain. Phasma finds the atmosphere breathable but thinks the planet brings back ill memories of her former homeworld.
They approach Rivas' fighter but find the fugitive has escaped. After disabling the communications, navigation, and distress beacon, Phasma deduces that he just ran out of fuel. Phasma also discovers evidence that Rivas was attacked by some kind of alien creature. The two take refuge in an abandoned dwelling. Using the gun-sight in her blaster rifle, Phasma discovers a nearby village.
To avoid alarming the locals, the two change into mufti clothes. Phasma also takes care to hide her face by donning a helmet with a red visor. TN-3465 also changes out of her uniform, revealing herself as a young human woman with a black bob haircut. To avoid revealing their First Order identities, Captain Phasma tells TN-3465 to identify herself as Pilot while Phasma calls herself Captain. While wading through a lake, Phasma is attacked by a giant tentacled monster known as the Tsw'ells, which grabs her in its tentacles. Following a fierce fight, Phasma manages to cut herself free and kill the creature with a large knife.
Upon surfacing to the other side of the lake, Phasma and TN-3465 encounter a humanoid people with pale, greenish skin called the Lupr'or. Phasma realizes that the Lupr'or speak a variation of Lupre'en. A black-haired woman named Dar'en tells the visitors that the Lupr'or leader Jair'i wants to meet Phasma for killing a Tsw'ell, a beast of mighty strength and destruction. Jai'ri tells the visitors the history of his people while Phasma translates for TN-3465.
Phasma and TN-3465 learn that the Lupr'or escaped from their planed many years ago. Regarding technology as an evil that spoiled that former homeworld, they destroyed their starships and adopted a primitive lifestyle based on fishing and farming. However, Luprora's climate deteriorated with rising sea levels and unpredictable waves eliminating much of the land they had settled and farmed. The Lupr'or also came under attack from Tsw'ells and a race of creatures known as the R'ora. The remaining Lupr'or had retreated to the safety of their remaining city.
Phasma learns from Jai'ri that Rivas was taken by the R'ora. While TN-3465 thinks that it is the end of the fugitive, Phasma claims that Rivas is her responsibility and cannot be left as a loose end. Ja'iri sends Dar'en to escort the offworlders to the R'ora stronghold in an attempt to show them how futile the task of "rescuing" R'ora is.
