Caretaker of First Knowledge was a title given to the leader of the Council of First Knowledge, a council within the Jedi Order that maintained the Jedi Archives[1] in the Jedi Temple on the planet Coruscant.[3] In 19 BBY, the rank became defunct with the Order's fall.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
The title was mentioned in the current Star Wars canon in the reference book Star Wars Super Graphic: A Visual Guide to a Galaxy Far, Far Away, written by Tim Leong and published in 2017.[1] It originates in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it first appeared—albeit identified as Caretaker of the Temple of First Knowledge—in the thirty-third issue of the Star Wars: Republic comic series, written by John Ostrander[4] and released by Dark Horse Comics on August 22, 2001.[5] In the 2009 roleplaying sourcebook The Clone Wars Campaign Guide published by Wizards of the Coast for use with the Saga Edition system, the rank is identified as Caretaker of the Tower of First Knowledge.[6] The name Caretaker of First Knowledge originates in the 2010 reference book The Jedi Path: A Manual for Students of the Force, written by Daniel Wallace.[7]
