Do we need this category?Edit

Isn't everything on the site in the category of "Star Wars"? Just wondering the thought process on this. Cbarbry 23:20, 16 Mar 2005 (EST)

  • This category will be for those articles that cannot be categorized. Wikipedia treats things differently, where everything related goes into this category. However, much of the stuff here at SSW goes into separate categories. Consider this page the starting point for category venturing. Everything else will link to here. -- Riffsyphon1024 14:03, 17 Mar 2005 (EST)

Proposed categorization schemeEdit

Right now it looks a little cluttered with 34 categories. Maybe there should only be 4 subcategories to this one. The first 2 would be Category:Star Wars Wiki and Category:Stub. Category:Real World would have games, toys, books, Behind the Magic, websites, people in reality etc. Category: Star Wars Universe would have weapons, tech, characters, conflicts, and the like. What does everyone think?-LtNOWIS 22:43, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Works for me. I like things nice an' neat (unlike my house). Just as long as it doesn't get too organized (it shouldn't take a long time to navigate through the categories). Shadowtrooper 22:54, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)
It's dificult to seperate what is in universe and out of universe from certain entries (Movies, Games, etc...) I think over time, broader categories will develop. I think the best way to develop categories is bottom-up, rather than top-down.--Eion 22:55, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I guess its okay. -- Riffsyphon1024 22:57, 30 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • In response to Eion's objections, I don't advocate making each article only In Univere or only Out of Universe content. See the comments I've made on Community Portal. Also, a certain article could be in both SW Universe and Real World through subcategories. For example, DC-15s side arm blaster could theoretically be in Category:Republic Commando, which is Real World, and Category:Clone Weapons, which is SW Universe. At the lower levels, things wouldn't really be changed. I don't see any current subcategories to this one that wouldn't work. For some, like Games, you don't know which universe it's talking about until you actually click the category and read the description. Anyways, I think I'll implement these changes tomorrow, but I'd like to have more than 2 people agree with me. Also, if anyone can think of a better name than "Category:Real World," I'd like to know.-LtNOWIS 03:48, 4 May 2005 (UTC)
    • That's better explained. I'd agree with that. As for the name, I really can't think of any. I expended my creative juices on "Behind the Magic." However, you could rename that category "Companies Behind the Magic", and make the uber-category "Behind the Magic", into which you could dump all the RW articles.--Eion 03:52, 4 May 2005 (UTC)
      • I think the proposed scheme makes sense. Real World seems like a good name, too. Just throwing in another opinion. -- Aidje 18:52, 4 May 2005 (UTC)
  • Well, it's done. I used Real World as the name. Behind the Magic wouldn't fit as such a broad category, as some real world articles aren't really behind anything good, like Supershadow. On another note, I left the "Films" category in both this category and the Real World category, because films are such a huge part of Star Wars, the highest canon, etc.-LtNOWIS 19:49, 4 May 2005 (UTC)
