A cavern spider was subterranean race of gaping spider, a giant, aggressive arachnid from the planet Dathomir. Most members of the Spiderclan emulated those quiet, efficient and deadly predators.

The spiders lived in caves like the Nightspider Cult cave and the Rancor Cave on Dathomir. A few cavern spiders were also brought to the Geonosian Bio-Lab on Yavin 4.

Cavern spiders appeared in the video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony and published by LucasArts, prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.
