This article is about the homeworld of the Celegian species.

Celegia was an Expansion Region world of raging seas. Its atmosphere was rich in the toxic cyanogen gas, and it was the homeworld of the sentient Celegians. Due to oxygen being lethal to the Celegians, they had to use special life support chambers when traveling off-world. Celegia had become a part of the Galactic Republic by approximately 17,000 BBY and was a member of the Galactic Empire in 17 BBY.

Description[]

Celegia was a world[4] located in the Celegia system, a part of the Noori sector[1] in the Slice portion of[2] the Expansion Region.[1] By approximately 17,000 BBY, Celegia was connected via hyperlanes to the Belasco system as well as the Inner Rim's Virujansi system.[3] Those hyperspace routes persisted until the Great Sith War of 3996 BBY but had ceased to exist by the onset of the Mandalorian Wars in 3976 BBY.[2]

A world of raging seas, Celegia had both land and at least one ocean on its surface. Its atmosphere had abundant amounts of cyanogen, a gas that was toxic to most sentient species but which the native Celegians breathed.[4]

History[]

Celegia was a part of the Exploitation Region around 17,000 BBY.

Space surrounding Celegia was explored between 20,000 BBY and 15,000 BBY,[2] and the world was a part of the Galactic Republic by 17,000 BBY. Around that time, which saw the beginning of a series of conflicts between the planet Alsakan; the Republic's capital world, Coruscant; and their respective allies, Celegia was situated in the Exploitation Region, which was a territory actively controlled by the Grand Companies—Coruscant-affiliated trading conglomerates based along the Core Worlds hyperlane known as the Spin. In addition, the hyperspace route connecting Celegia to the Belasco system was under the control of Coruscant. The hyperlane leading to the Virujansi system, however, was among the routes that were either neutral or contested during the conflicts.[3]

During the first campaigns of the Clone Wars of 22 BBY19 BBY, the Republic's Fourth Sector Army was charged with engaging the military forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems in Celegia's vicinity. The world had become a part of the Galactic Empire by 17 BBY.[3] As part of their invasion of the galaxy, at some point by 27 ABY, the extra-galactic Yuuzhan Vong gained control over the Celegia system.[2]

Celegia was the homeworld of the Celegians.

Celegia was the ancient homeworld of the sentient, telepathic scyphozoans known as the Celegians. Evolved from ocean-dwelling invertebrates that eventually adapted to living on land, the Celegians used for locomotion a natural form of levitation that resembled an organic repulsorlift generator.[4] Around 25 ABY, the population of the Celegia system numbered between ten and one hundred million.[2]

Oxygen,[4] which was commonly encountered off-world,[5] was lethal to Celegians, necessitating the use of special life support chambers when members of the species were away from their homeworld.[4] Despite that limitation, Celegians eventually established a colony on the Outer Rim Territories moon Tramanos, which also had cyanogen in its atmosphere.[6]

Behind the scenes[]

Celegia was first indirectly mentioned in the 2002 Power of the Jedi Sourcebook, which was published by Wizards of the Coast for use with the Star Wars Roleplaying Game.[7] The world was first named in the 2003 Star Wars Roleplaying Game sourcebook Ultimate Alien Anthology.[4] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Celegia system, and therefore Celegia itself, in grid square O-10.[2]
