- "Commander, Aristocra Chaf'orm'bintrano of the Fifth Ruling Family is signaling the Springhawk. He demands your immediate presence aboard the Chaf Exalted."
- ―Chaf'orm'bintrano's contact, to Force Commander Mitth'raw'nuruodo
The Chaf Exalted was a large Chiss ship[1] in service as a flaghip of the Chiss Ascendancy's Chaf family,[2] serving as part of a fleet led by Aristocra Chaf'orm'bintrano, core name "Formbi."[1]
Description[]
A large Chiss ship, the Chaf Exalted had a command bridge bigger than the bridge of the Chiss attack cruiser Springhawk. The bridge was manned by yellow-uniformed Fifth Family officers. A conference room located aboard the ship featured a narrow desk with a cushioned chair.[1]
History[]
- «You will pay for this. You hear me? You will pay. And the charge will be high treason.»
«I don't think such a charge will hold, Aristocra.»
«You don't think the charge will hold?»
«No, I don't. Car'das has already stated that Syndic Mitth'ras'safis and the human Lorana Jinzler were the perpetrators.»
«With his assistance and advice.» - ―Aristocra Chaf'orm'bintrano and Admiral Ar'alani, on Force Commander Mitth'raw'nuruodo
In 27 BBY,[3] the Chaf Exalted boarded the Springhawk, an attack cruiser under the command of Force Commander Mitth'raw'nuruodo, core name "Thrawn," of the Chiss Expansionary Fleet in the aftermath of the battle for the colony ship Outbound Flight. Thrawn and Admiral Ar'alani of the Chiss Defense Fleet reported to Aristocra Chaf'orm'bintrano, core name "Formbi," of the Fifth Ruling Family on the Chaf Exalted's bridge, where they were joined by the Galactic Republic ambassador Kinman Doriana. Thrawn translated while the Aristocra accused the Human of bringing weapons to use against the Chiss. Catching on quickly to the power struggle between the Chiss, Doriana claimed salvage rights as a representative of the Republic, distracting the Aristocra long enough for Outbound Flight to jump to hyperspace. Before it left, a shuttle carrying the Corellian smuggler Jorj Car'das launched from the ship.[1]
Aboard the Chaf Exalted's conference room, Formbi was furious with Outbound Flight's escape and confronted Thrawn, Ar'alani, Doriana and Car'das. Records of the battle had shown that Thrawn fired first and he did not believe that the Vagaari's presence had provided sufficient cause to do so. Formbi threatened to revoke Thrawn's military position in the Expansionary Fleet, as well as renounce his family rank of Trial-born in the Eighth Family, never again to rise to a high position where he may threaten Chiss law or custom. Thrawn knew that the Eighth Ruling Family would insist on a hearing at an Eighth Family stronghold and believed that the alien technology that he captured would keep him in the Family. Formbi believed that Thrawn meant the Outbound Flight, but in fact, Thrawn referred to the Vagaari gravity well projector, on which Thrawn corrected him. Ar'alani interrupted Thrawn, warning him that the device belonged to the Defense Fleet. Thrawn assured her that if he were to remain an Expansionary Fleet officer, he would present the projector to the Defense Fleet instead. Ar'alani had nothing to say, and knowing that he was defeated, Formbi departed.[1]
