Chandra was, along with Chandrakant, one of the two moons of the Core Worlds planet Chandrila. Along with the rest of the Bormea sector's Chandrila system, it was located on the Perlemian Trade Route, which served as a dividing line between the Northern Dependencies and Arrowhead portions of the Core Worlds.
The lifeless terrestrial moon was the larger of Chandrila's natural satellites and was covered in massive craters caused by asteroid impacts. The moon had a thin atmosphere, which caused its barren surface to reflect a lavender-colored light, and it loomed impossibly large in Chandrila's skies. Chandra's name meant "point" in the Chandrilan language. Chandrila's moons were said to represent the value of debate and peaceful coexistence, as well as the importance of moving on when a debate was finished.
Behind the scenes
The two moons of Chandrila were first mentioned in Coruscant and the Core Worlds, a 2003 sourcebook published by Wizards of the Coast for use with the Star Wars Roleplaying Game. The 2015 Fantasy Flight Games sourcebook Strongholds of Resistance, published for use with the Star Wars: Age of Rebellion roleplaying game system. The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Chandrila system, and therefore Chandra, in grid square L-9.
