Official description[]

Kai helps Bell find his runaway charhound.

Plot summary[]

Master Greatstorm's visit[]

Lys Solay and Nubs were partaking in a lightsaber training exercise on the training field. Solay complimented Nubs at the end of the exercise. The two Jedi Initiates were then joined by Kai Brightstar, who had run up to tell them that they would soon be visited by Jedi Master Loden Greatstorm and his Padawan Bell Zettifar. Solay and Nubs were unfamiliar with Master Greatstorm, to Brightstar's astonishment. He then explained that Greatstorm was one of the best teachers in the Jedi Order and that he had read all about him. Brightstar was also eager to meet his Padawan and mentioned his hopes to be a Padawan himself one day.[3]

Shortly afterwards, Greatstorm and Zettifar arrived in two Jedi Vectors. Master Zia Zaldor Zanna had been waiting to greet the visitors, and Brightstar and his fellow younglings had come up beside her. Brightstar had excitedly interrupted Master Zanna's introduction of the duo and quickly introduced himself to Zettifar, who remarked that it was nice to meet Brightstar. Solay then introduced both herself and Nubs before welcoming Greatstorm and Zettifar to Tenoo. Greatstorm stated that he was delighted to be there and that he looked forward to teaching a lesson later that day.[3]

Brightstar was excited to see Zettifar and told him that he was interested in his adventures with Master Greatstorm and how he had gotten his kyber crystal. The visitors were then joined by Greatstorm's pet charhound, Ember, much to the delight of Solay. The charhound proceeded to greet Solay and the other younglings. When Ember breathed fire, Solay explained that she had done so because she was excited.[3]

Hanging Out with Bell[]

Master Zia invited the visitors and the Younglings on a tour of the Tenoo Jedi Temple before their afternoon lesson. Zettifar then asked Greatstorm for permission to take Ember out to play, which Greatstorm allowed, though he reminded Zettifar to be back in time for their lesson. Brightstar offered to stay and show Zettifar a place for Ember to play. He took them to the circular Temple training grounds, which were spacious enough for Ember to run around.[3]

Ember was happy with her surroundings. Zettifar played a game of fetch with Ember, telling Brightstar that he sometimes used the Force to play fetch with Ember in order to practice his control and concentration. Zettifar asked if Brightstar would like to try, reminding him to breathe, concentrate, and stay calm. Brightstar then used the Force to throw Ember's toy. However, he threw it too far and into the nearby forest. As Ember ran after her toy, Brightstar admitted that he needed more practice at throwing objects with the Force. While they waited for Ember, Zettifar invited Brightstar to practice with him.[3]

Search for Ember[]

In the forest, Ember quickly found the toy but had gotten distracted by a sciuridi, who she'd begun to play with, running after it deeper into the forest. Back at the Temple training grounds, Zettifar coached Brightstar about concentrating in the Force to better control the strength of his throw. Brightstar practiced with a stick, and Zettifar praised him when he managed to better control his throw. The two soon become concerned that Ember had not returned and, after Zettifar's calls for her had gone unanswered, decided to search for her.[3]

Once in the forest, Zettifar mentioned that Ember was able to take care of herself, though he had become worried that she may have gotten lost in the unfamiliar surroundings. Brightstar then decided to use his Force powers to jump up a Tenoo tree, hoping to get a better view of the forest. Zettifar warned Brightstar that he was hesitant that he would be able to make a particularly high jump. Brightstar, wanting to impress the other Jedi, attempted the jump anyway, worrying Zettifar. Brightstar ultimately missed the jump but was caught mid-air by Zettifar's Force powers, preventing any injury. Brighstar then admitted that he would need more practice in this area too. Zettifar told him that he had just been glad the other boy was alright. [3]

Soon after, Zettifar noticed several burnt leaves, and the two boys began to follow the path that Ember had left behind. Zettifar noticed that some of the burn marks were still warm, meaning Ember must be close by. However, the trail stopped when they hit a stream. However, Brightstar soon became concerned that Ember could be anywhere, and they would need to return to the Temple soon to attend Master Greatstorm's lesson. Zettifar once again reminded Brightstar that they only needed to concentrate and breathe. Zettifar then climbed on top of a Tenoo tree root to meditate and was soon joined by Brightstar. Brightstar heard both he sounds of the nearby river and a bifflefly fluttering nearby and soon sensed some muddy paw prints, which Zettifar had praised him for. Brightstar hurried after the trail, despite Zettifar advising caution, and slipped and fell down a muddy slope. Zettifar followed after him, skating down several Tenoo tree roots.[3]

Brightstar was safe but muddy. When Zettifar asked if he was alright, Brightstar confided that he had ambitions about becoming a Padawan but doubted that he would "make the cut" due to his repeated mistakes. Zettifar reassured Brightstar that when he was a youngling, he had also made mistakes but that things would always work out. Zettifar praised Brightstar for his persistence and said that he hoped to have a Padawan like him one day. He told Brightstar that any Jedi Master would be lucky to have him as their Padawan.[3]

Distracting the Gangul[]

They then heard Ember barking in distress, and the two Jedi found Ember facing down a Gangul near a stony henge. Brightstar explained that Ganguls were territorial and didn't like intruders in their homes. Brightstar attempted to distract the Gangul with his lightsaber, but the large creature ignored him. Zettifar instead used the Force to levitate a log and had Brightstar help him convince the Gangul to play a game of fetch, reminding Brightstar once more to concentrate. Working together, the two Jedi hurled the log away.[3]

While the Gangul chased the log, the two Jedi reunited with Ember and her new sciuridi friend. Zettifar remarked that they were not the only ones to have made friends. They then headed back to the Temple for Master Greatstorm's class.[3]

Back in time[]

Back at the Temple training grounds, several younglings had been waiting for Master Greatstorms' class to begin. Solay reassured Nubs, who had noticed Brightstar and Zettifar were absent. Soon a muddy Brightstar and Zettifar arrived. A concerned Master Zia asked what had happened. Brightstar began to recount their adventure in the forest, but Zettifar explained that Brightstar had helped him find Ember after she had gotten lost. Zettifar added that he couldn't have done it without Brightstar. While Brightstar reunited with Solay and Nubs, Greatstorm welcomed him to his class.[3]

Greatstorm had the younglings, as well as Zettifar, ignite their lightsabers and promised to teach them a lesson that his master had taught him a long time ago. Zettifar then thanked Brightstar for helping to find Ember. Greatstorm then led the younglings in practicing various lightsaber movements.[3]
