Chief of Staff was a title held by individuals within various branches of the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances. Cha Niathal was Chief of Staff after the Chief of State coup. After the Second Galactic Civil War, the title was held by Wynn Dorvan, Chief of State Natasi Daala's right-hand man. General Stavin Thaal served as Chief of Staff for the Galactic Alliance Army.

Military organizations also used the title, evidenced by Wedge Antilles's time as Chief of Staff of the New Republic Starfighter Command.

Wynn Dorvan's official title was Chief of Staff of the Galactic Alliance and it was said that he would become interim Chief of State should the sitting Chief die.
