It was the homeworld of a sentient species, the Chironians.

One Chironian, Lusa, joined Luke Skywalker's New Jedi Order and became a Jedi Knight. Shortly before the Yuuzhan Vong conquest of Coruscant, Lusa was killed on Chiron by a voxyn.
