Chirrion Base was a military base of the Galactic Empire[1] located in[3] the Chirrion system of the Outer Rim Territories' Rolion sector.[2] During the Galactic Civil War,[1] in 0 ABY,[4] in an effort to find out which of the Empire's 752 bases in the Rolion sector the Rebel Alliance was planning to attack, Major Herrit of Imperial Intelligence contacted all of those installations and instructed each of them to report a different common systems malfunction—in the case of Chirrion Base, "environmental problems"—to the central Imperial headquarters. Imperial Intelligence subsequently identified the Alliance's target base when it intercepted a Rebel transmission mentioning the malfunction reported by the Imperial communications station in Fara's Belt.[1]

Chirrion Base was first mentioned in Paul Murphy's 1990 The Rebel Alliance Sourcebook, which was published by West End Games for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[5]
