Chollas were herd animals that grazed the plains on the planet Kal'Shebbol in the Kathol sector of the Outer Rim Territories. Around 392 BBY, Twi'lek settlers, escaping from slavery, domesticated the herds that roamed their adopted homeworld. Along with the development of farms, the ranching of the chollas helped the Twi'leks to establish the basis of their new society.[2] By 8 ABY, chollas were also found on the neighboring planet of Kolatill. The ranching of both chollas and banthas was a large industry on the planet; the hides and meat of the chollas sold for decent sums of credits in Kolatill's northern cities. Both the meat and hide were also exported off-world to the nearby planets of Gandle Ott and Torize.[3]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Chollas were first referenced in The DarkStryder Campaign published by West End Games in 1995 in their information capsules for the planets Kal'Shebbol and Kolatill. It is unknown if chollas is the plural or singular name of the species. The species is referred to as herds of chollas; however, this article makes no assumptions as to whether or not the name is singular or plural, and lists it by the only name indicated.[3]

  1. In The DarkStryder Campaign, chollas are described as herd animals, and their meat and hides are tradeable commodities within the Kathol sector, indicating they have no sentience and are merely livestock animals.
