Cioral was a terrestrial astronomical object located in the Unknown Regions Chiss Ascendancy nation. In 18 BBY, it was the stronghold of one of the Ascendancy's Great Families, the Xodlak family. In year, Senior Captain Xodlak'in'daro, core name "Lakinda," served in the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet's Picket Force Six as the commanding officer of the Chiss heavy cruiser Grayshrike. During a battle against a remnant of the Nikardun Destiny hegemony, the Grayshrike was damaged, leaving the final kills to the other warships in the picket force—the heavy cruiser Springhawk and the Nightdragon man-of-war Vigilant. Although the battle was a success, Lakinda believed it would not be seen that way on Cioral, as the damages to her ship denied her and her family the glory of defeating the enemy.
Description[]
Cioral was a terrestrial astronomical object located within the borders of the Chiss Ascendancy nation, in the Unknown Regions. The object was breathable for the Chiss sentient species.[1]
History[]
In 18 BBY[2] Cioral was the stronghold for the Xodlak family, one of the Ascendancy's Forty Great Families.[1] In that year,[2] Senior Captain Xodlak'in'daro, core name "Lakinda," an officer in the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet navy, served as the commanding officer of the Chiss heavy cruiser Grayshrike in Picket Force Six. During a battle against a remnant of the Nikardun Destiny, the heavy cruiser was damaged, forcing it to be sidelined while the other warships in the picket force—the heavy cruiser Springhawk and the Nightdragon man-of-war Vigilant—ended the battle. Although the campaign was a success, Lakinda believed it would be seen as a failure on Cioral by the Xodlak family as the damages to her ship had robbed her, and by extension the family, of the glory of defeating the enemy.[1]
Following the skirmish, the Springhawk continued on towards its own mission, but was soon recalled to the Ascendancy's capital planet of Csilla by the nation's ruling body of the Syndicure. As the warship was out of communications range, the Vigilant's commander, Admiral Ar'alani, dispatched Lakinda and the Grayshrike to follow the Sprinhawk and summon it back to Csilla. While en route to the destination, Lakinda believed that being taken off the task force to "play messenger" would not be well received by the family on Cioral.[1]
Inhabitants[]
As Cioral was located within the borders of the Chiss Ascendancy, it was home to a number of Cheunh-speaking Chiss.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
In the current Star Wars canon, Cioral was first mentioned in the 2021 novel Thrawn Ascendancy: Greater Good, the second installment in Timothy Zahn's Ascendancy Trilogy.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the planet Cioral was mentioned in The Essential Atlas, a 2009 reference book written by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry.[3]
