Clær was an astronomical object[3] located in the Claer system, a part of the Sern sector[1] in the Southern Core portion of[2] the Colonies.[1] It was the site of an exclusive preparatory academy.[3] At some point between 5 BBY and 0 BBY,[4] Imperial Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin sent his niece Rivoche to Clær in order to attend the academy.[3]

Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]

Clær was created by Michael Allen Horne and first mentioned in Cracken's Rebel Operatives, a 1994 West End Games sourcebook for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game.[3] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Claer system, and therefore Clær, within grid square L-13.[2]

  4. Cracken's Rebel Operatives states that Rivoche Tarkin was sent by her uncle Wilhuff to attend the preparatory academy on Clær following the death of Rivoche's father, Gideon Tarkin. The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, Vol. III, p. 220 ("Tarkin, Gideon") establishes that Gideon died five years before the Battle of Yavin, which corresponds to 5 BBY, according to The New Essential Chronology. As The New Essential Chronology also establishes that Wilhuff Tarkin perished in 0 BBY, Rivoche's enrollment at the Clær academy must have taken place sometime between those two dates.
