Publisher's summary[]

Following the frightening threat of the Night Beast, Luke and inadvertent stowaway Threepio travel to the desert world of Aridus – ostensibly to ensure the continuation of the Rebel Alliance's weapons-smuggling operation there. But Luke is more interested in checking out rumors of a mysterious stranger who's appeared on Aridus claiming to be... Ben Kenobi!

As the Rebels fight off
Imperial forces attacking
their Yavin base, an Imperial
bomber crashes into the ruins
at the ancient Massassi ruins
rousing the fearsome Night Beast.
The Beast fights and easily defeats
Chewbacca and shrugs off blaster
fire from Luke and Han before
disappearing without a trace. Chewie is
rescued, and a search for the Beast is
undertaken - to no avail. The Rebels
discover that the Beast was left as a guardian
of the Massassi ruins by its original inhabitants.
Luke finally uses the Force to ferret out the
Beast in a maze of underground tunnels below the
ruins. After a tense battle with the Beast, Luke
communicates to it a means of rejoining its
masters, and it sets off to find them.
