Colla IV, or simply Colla, was an Inner Rim Territories home to the sentient insectoid Colicoids, a violent warrior species. The Colicoids ran the Colicoid Creation Nest, a manufacturing company that was contracted by the Trade Federation to create army droids for them. The natives subsequently created the droideka heavy duty combat droid in their own image, and went on to make other droids and starships that would be used by the Separatist Alliance against the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars.
Description[]
Colla IV[4] known more simply as Colla,[1] was a terrestrial planet[3] in Inner Rim Territories, situated at the coordinates N-9 on the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] The toothspike raptor was a creature native to the world.[2]
History[]
The Galactic Republic initially sent representatives, including Jedi Knights, to Colla IV. However, the native Colicoids were extremely hostile to outsiders, and the Republic quickly stopped its efforts in order to end the protests against the excesses of Colicoids. Eventually, the Trade Federation corporation, looking for weapons manufacturers to create them a droid army, successfully negotiated with the resident Colicoid Creation Nest, a manufacturing company ran by Colicoids, and awarded them a contract to create army droids.[5]
The Colicoids subsequently designed the the heavy duty destroying machine known as the droideka in their own image, naming the model as a mix between droid and their language meaning for "flesh flies." The Trade Federation paid them in fifty transports worth of exotic meats, most still living creatures. With a satisfactory arrangement for them, the Colicoids subsequently manufactured and sold the droidekas. The droideka designs were autonomous, which went against the Trade Federation's desires in the contract for them to be controlled by a central computer. Nevertheless the Colicoids did not expect the corporation to give much protest to that.[5]
The Trade Federation became a key part of the Separatist Alliance, which was founded following the Raxus Address[2] in 24 BBY.[6] On top of the droidekas,[3] the Colicoid Creation Nest produced additional droids and vehicles for the Separatists,[3][5][7] including the Droideka Sharpshooter,[5] Pistoeka sabotage droids[3] and the Trident-class assault ships. The Colicoids designed the Droch-class boarding ships with a hull based loosely off of the toothspike raptor.[2] They additionally manufactured the droid tri-fighter in cooperation with Phlac-Arphocc Automata Industries, the starfighter's three-armed design mimicking the skull features of one of its Colla IV's most ferocious predators.[4] These droids and vehicles saw use by the Separatists against the Republic in the Clone Wars[3][4][5][7] of 22 BBY to 19 BBY.[8]
Inhabitants[]
Colla IV was home to the Colicoids, a sentient insectoid species known for having completely unfeeling and murderous ways.[3] With a meat-included diet, the two-meter warrior creatures, covered in a dese chitinous shell, were violent even among themselves, but especially showed hostility towards outsiders.[5]
