The Corrupter was a Victory II-class Star Destroyer in the Imperial Navy during the Galactic Civil War.
History[]
Prior to the Battle of Endor, the Corrupter was assigned by the Empire to hunt down pirates and smugglers in the Outer Rim. Following the cataclysmic defeat at Endor and the schism of the Imperial ranks, this ship was reassigned to the personal fleet of Imperial Intelligence Director Ysanne Isard.
Isard used the Corrupter to defend Thyferra and Xucphra bacta convoys following her flight from Coruscant. Captain Ait Convarion, the ship's commanding officer, found and destroyed a bacta-hauling freighter stolen by members of Rogue Squadron—many members of the squad were killed as a result.
After this incident, the Corrupter began terrorizing worlds that refused to pay Isard's largely inflated prices for bacta, especially those that received free bacta "liberated" by the Rogues. The Corrupter's first target in this campaign was to destroy a colony on Halanit. The ship's TIE/sa bombers conducted an orbital bombardment using thermal detonators and proton bombs to melt the glacier and open a hole in the colony's roof. TIE interceptors and stormtroopers then attacked the colony in order to kill its people.
The Corrupter would, however, meet her end at the Graveyard. With the aid of the Immobilizer 418 cruiser Aggregator, the Corrupter's captain thought that he had the Rogues in an inescapable trap—until the sudden appearance of the Valiant, which attacked the unshielded portion of the destroyer.
The Valiant, a Thantra-Class War Cruiser, had originally been assigned to escort the Alderaanian War Frigate, Another Chance, which had been turned into an armory ship to carry the planet's weapons away when they disarmed. However, the Valiant became separated from the convoy and the ship's automated crew decided to return to the planet for updated orders; orders that would never come, due the the Destruction of Alderaan.
At that time, Rogue Squadron was acting without the official backing of the New Republic government, and so had chosen to use IFF beacon codes from their home planets, rather than the official New Republic frequency. Tycho Celchu, a native of Alderaan, had chosen to use a pre-disarmament military code, which happened to correspond to the beacon of Another Chance. The droid crew of the ship had interpreted the battle as an attack on their programmed charge, despite the fact that the beacon was now attached to a X-Wing fighter.
After suffering a considerable amount of damage from the squadron and the Valiant, a pair of proton torpedoes fired by Wedge Antilles struck the bridge, killing Captain Convarion. The leaderless capital ship was soon abandoned. The Rogues and smugglers were unable to salvage the Corrupter, and it was destroyed by the Graveyard's asteroids.
