"There goes another one. I think it's the Laudable."

A staging area on the planet Coruscant was used during the Clone Wars for Venator-class Star Destroyers. The Republic military base was stationed in close proximity to the staging area.

History

During the Clone Wars, the clone troopers Rys and Jek were on break between assignments and spent some time at the staging area, where Jek serviced his weaponry and Rys observed the departures of Republic Venator-class Star Destroyers such as the Laudable and the Brassbound. The troopers' break was interrupted by the arrival of Lieutenant Thire, under whose command they were assigned to escort Jedi Master Yoda to the moon Rugosa.[3]

During the final days of that conflict, the staging area was used by both Yoda and Obi-Wan Kenobi, a fellow Jedi Master, to depart with their clone trooper battalions for the planets Kashyyyk and Utapau, respectively. Before Kenobi left the staging area, he and Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker had what turned out to be their final conversation as friends, as Skywalker became the Sith Lord Darth Vader not long after Kenobi's departure.[1]

After the Republic's reorganization into the Galactic Empire, Vader met his Master, Emperor Palpatine, at the staging area, and the Emperor explained to Vader the rationale behind[2] his order to Commander Vill of the 501st Legion to sell captured Nosaurian refugees in slavery.[4]

Behind the scenes

Within the Star Wars: The Clone Wars television series, the staging area was designed for the second season episode "Duchess of Mandalore." Although several scenes featuring the staging area were fully animated, they were ultimately cut from the final version of the episode as part of an abandoned story thread featuring Anakin Skywalker preparing troops to occupy Mandalore.[5]
