- "Why do you fight the Empire? Tell me your story."
"Why me?"
"Your story is going to save the galaxy." - ―Corwi Selgrothe and a rebel
Corwi Selgrothe was a holojournalist who turned to creating propaganda for the Rebel Alliance. Formerly a reporter for the Imperial Press Corps[1] of HoloNet News,[2] Selgrothe was recruited by the Galactic Empire with a number of other journalists after the fall of the Galactic Republic[1] in 19 BBY.[3] Initially naive about her employer's intent, she came to realize the Imperial Press Corps simply served to create propaganda for the Empire. Selgrothe quietly left her job and went into hiding,[1] eventually defecting to the Rebellion following the Ghorman Massacre[2] in 2 BBY,[3] aided by Mon Mothma.[1]
Selgrothe gained fame as a rebel journalist;[2] among her achievements was capturing a holovid of Jyn Erso's inspiring speech at Yavin 4. She was later present at the Rebel Alliance's Echo Base on Hoth to capture more footage for future propaganda. She desired to speak with the three most well-known heroes of the Rebellion, Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo, but was not able to meet with any of them—save for Solo, who was quickly dismissive—before the Empire discovered the base and attacked, forcing the rebels to evacuate. Selgrothe, who due to her recent arrival was unfamiliar with their evacuation plan, was assisted in evacuating by a rebel soldier named L'cayo Llem. Inspired by heroic actions from an average soldier, Selgrothe began to talk to her fellow evacuees after they successfully passed the Imperial fleet.[1] While on Hoth, Selgrothe also captured an image of the evacuation's last stages.[2] Selgrothe was also friends with the propaganda artist Janray Tessime.[1]
