- "Let me explain the Cosmatanic Steppes. It is a layer of mantle suspended above a gas giant. It's been a center of archaeological digs and scavenging for the last hundred years of the historical art rush."
- ―Chelli Aphra
A gas giant was located in the Outer Rim Territories,[1] in a system with at least three stars.[2] The Cosmatanic Steppes, a habitable layer of mantle, was suspended above the gas giant planet. The nature of the Cosmatanic Steppes made it the center of many archaeological digs as part of the historical art rush, with archaeologists attempting to determine the formation's nature and origin.[1]
While on the Cosmatanic Steppes during the time of the Galactic Empire, at least one hundred years into the historical art rush, the rogue archaeologist Doctor Chelli Aphra explained the Steppes, its gas giant, and the archaeological effort, to the assassin droid 0-0-0.[1]
Behind the scenes
The gas giant was mentioned in Doctor Aphra 1, a comic written by Kieron Gillen and published by Marvel Comics[1] on December 7, 2016.[3]
