The Crumb Bomber was a Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry gunship used by the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. The ship's nose was decorated with art of a Kowakian monkey-lizard holding a missile and the Aurebesh text "laugh this off". Years later, during the Imperial Era, the Lothal cantina Old Jho's Pit Stop had on display the nose of a LAAT/i gunship with the Crumb Bomber's nose art, which proprietor Jho claimed was the authentic gunship itself. Decades after that during the Cold War, Aunt Z's Tavern on the Colossus platform displayed the Kowakian artwork as part of its décor.
Description[]
The Crumb Bomber[6] was a Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry gunship.[1] Therefore, like all vehicles of the class, it had a length of 17.69 meters,[7] a height of 6.54 meters,[8] and could carry up to thirty passengers.[1] The Crumb Bomber was armed with the standard chin-mounted dual laser cannons.[8] It was normally flown by one clone trooper pilot, who was accompanied by a co-pilot.[2] Large spotlights were occasionally mounted on the front for increased visibility at night.[3] The Crumb Bomber, in addition to its standard red-and-white paintjob, sported nose art depicting a Kowakian monkey-lizard holding a missile, with "laugh this off" written in Aurebesh above the creature. Orange kill markings were painted below the artwork.[9]
History[]
During the Clone Wars, the Crumb Bomber saw action during the battle of Teth[2] and was later stationed on the Venator-class Star Destroyer Resolute during the hunt for the Subjugator-class heavy cruiser Malevolence.[10] The Crumb Bomber also rescued the clone survivors of the battle of the Rishi Moon[3] and participated in the Battle of Ryloth.[4]
During the reign of the Galactic Empire, a cantina on the planet Lothal known as Old Jho's Pit Stop displayed the remains of a Low Altitude Assault Transport with the same nose art as the Crumb Bomber, which cantina owner Jho claimed was the authentic remains of the Clone Wars-era ship.[11] Several decades later, the Kowakian monkey-lizard art logo could still be found, on a wing panel used to decorate the wall of Aunt Z's Tavern on the Colossus.[12]
Behind the scenes[]
The Crumb Bomber was created for the television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and first appeared in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars film, in 2008.[2] It was reintroduced in 2014 in the series Star Wars Rebels, as the remains of the gunship decorated the front of Old Jho's Pit Shop.[11] In 2018, ten years after the ship appeared on screen for the first time, attentive viewers would be rewarded with a second easter egg: the logo art could be spotted on the wall of Aunt Z's tavern in the series Star Wars Resistance.[12]
