The CryoBan grenade was originally designed as a fire suppressant. When detonated, Cryoban grenades rapidly caused everything in a radius of four meters to freeze. Used as a weapon, they could trap a person or object, and the cold itself could be lethal to living beings and damage equipment such as droids and vehicles.

The freezing effect was caused by a supercooled liquid that froze on contact. There was also a chemical agent present that absorbed heat.

CryoBan grenades were used by Revan, the Jedi Exile, mercenaries, Mandalorians, and others during the Jedi Civil War.

The CryoBan grenade, also named cryo grenade, was a type of grenade that could temporarily freeze targets.

Description[]

Cryoban grenade-EotECR

A stormtrooper throwing a CryoBan grenade

The CryoBan grenade was originally designed as an emergency fire suppressant.[2] It used CryoBan technology adapted from the carbon-freezing process. Used as a weapon, the CryoBan grenade covered targets in its blast radius with supercooled chemicals, causing pain and temporarily trapping a person within the ice formed by the blast. The cold itself could also damage equipment such as droids, electronics, and vehicles that were not adapted for cold-weather use.[3]

Models manufactured by Merr-Sonn Munitions, Inc. included the WW-41 CryoBan grenade and WW-47 CryoBan grenade. These CryoBan grenades had a distinct baton shape.[2]
