«Got word House Thul is smuggling in CryoBan weapons. Very illegal. Freeze you in three seconds flat.»
―Aza Gundo describes the CryoBan problem on Alderaan.[src]

CryoBan rifles were a make of rifle which used CryoBan technology and were capable of freezing their targets rapidly. During the Cold War between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic, CryoBan rifles were smuggled onto the planet Alderaan, where they were illegal, by a smuggling ring. The weapons were delivered to the House of Thul, one of the Great Houses of Alderaan involved in the Alderaan Civil War and backed by the Empire. House Thul's troops used the rifles in combat against troops of the rival, Republic–backed, House of Organa and the Republic troops fighting with them, causing many casualties. After a large number of weapons had already been delivered to the planet, a private in the Republic Army named Aza Gundo became aware of the smuggling ring through pre–military connections he had, and the Republic successfully shut it down.[1]

Several days after the ring was shut down, Gundo enlisted the help of a Republic aligned individual to track down and destroy the remaining rifles on the planet. The individual traveled to the Organa Vinerium, an area were Thul troops with CryoBan rifles were stationed, and killed at least five of them, taking their weapons to Gundo for destruction.[1]

Behind the scenesEdit

CryoBan rifles first appeared in Star Wars: The Old Republic, a MMORPG released by BioWare in 2011.
