DRN-38 was a battle droid who served in the army of the company known as the Trade Federation.^[1] Sometime between 39 BBY and 36 BBY,^[2] DRN-38 commanded a group of droids that were sent to the rediscovered moon Alaris Prime to secure its resources illegally for the Federation. On the moon, DRN-38's droids encountered a small group of Wookiees led by the Chieftain Attichitcuk, who was leading his species in a legal colonization effort on Alaris Prime. The droids shot Attichitcuk's party, killing the other Wookiees present and badly wounding the Chieftan. Jedi Knight Qui-Gon Jinn, who was assisting the Wookiees, sent Attichitcuk's son Chewbacca to rescue him. Chewbacca found Attichitcuk, destroying many of DRN-38's droids in the process, then had a medical droid heal him. In retaliation, DRN-38 sent three droidekas to the base Attichitcuk had been taken too, but the Wookiees defeated the droids.^[1]

Behind the scenes

DRN-38 was mentioned in the 2001 PC video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds and its 2002 expansion. DRN-38's name was given as the commander of the Trade Federation forces in the fourth level of the Wookiee tutorial campaign, "Researching technology," and it can also be randomly generated as a Trade Federation leader in the game's skirmish mode.
