Daniel Mindel is a South African-American cinematographer who has frequently worked with film directors Ridley Scott, Tony Scott and J.J. Abrams. On August 22, 2013, Mindel confirmed that he would serve as Abrams' cinematographer on 2015's Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens. The announcement came one day before cinematographer Gilbert Taylor, who originally filmed Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, passed away. Mindel returned as cinematographer for 2019's Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker.[1]
