"So yes, I ordered the retreat. Even then, only half of us survived. There's no stopping them. Why die trying?"
―Dannis Veriga, during their court-martial[src]

Dannis Veriga was an admiral in the Republic Navy of the Galactic Republic during the Galactic War with the reconstituted Sith Empire.[1] In 3636 BBY,[2] the Eternal Empire invaded the rest of the galaxy, and Veriga was in charge of the Republic forces tasked with protecting[1] the Core Worlds planet[3] Alderaan when the Eternal Empire's Eternal Fleet arrived in the Alderaan system.[1]

After the Eternal Fleet dropped out of hyperspace in a wall of starships moving synchronously, Veriga's forces were quickly overwhelmed and were unable to make any significant dent in the fleet, so Veriga ordered a retreat—although that order ultimately only managed to save half of the Republic forces at Alderaan. The admiral was court-martialed in the aftermath for abandoning the planet, and during the trial expressed a belief that dying in an effort to stop the Eternal Empire would be pointless.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

Dannis Veriga was mentioned in the "Eternal Fleet: Combat" Codex entry in Chapter XV of Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Fallen Empire, a 2015 Digital Expansion to the 2011 BioWare video game Star Wars: The Old Republic.[1]
