"The heretic comes for the same reason it came last time. Its body is failing. It fears that which is consuming it… Let the pretender's fear consume it!"
Darth Andeddu, referring to Darth Krayt[src]

Darth Andeddu was a Sith Lord from an unknown time period who created a holocron with the knowledge he possessed, and was buried with it on the Sith tomb world of Korriban.

Biography

Andeddu's Sith holocron.

At some point in time, Darth Andeddu was born in the Deep Core.

According to legend, at some point Andeddu's body died, but he used the Force to keep controlling it, even though it had already begun decaying.

Lost in the annals of Sith history for many years, his holocron was recovered by Quinlan Vos and Tol Skorr sixteen months after the Battle of Geonosis as they attempted to gain favor with Count Dooku.

After extracting the knowledge stored in the holocron, Dooku disassembled the artifact and removed a deep red crystal used in Darth Andeddu's lightsaber, giving it to Vos.

Ingo Wavlud, a suspected Sith sympathizer, would one day theorize in his Manuscript that Andeddu was the first Sith Lord to use the "Darth" title.

In 137 ABY, Darth Krayt activated his holocron on Korriban (along with those of Darth Nihilus and Darth Bane) to seek advice on how to end the corruption of his body by the Yuuzhan Vong Vonduun crab armor he wore to extend his life. Andeddu rebuked him, calling him a heretic.

Darth Wyyrlok would later travel to the Deep Core to search for Andeddu's secret.

If he was a member of the ancient Sith Empire, and thus predating Revan and Malak, Darth Andeddu would be the first Sith to use the title Darth. However, to date, nothing is known about Andeddu, including even the timeframe he lived in. Likewise, the title of Darth is in a constant state of retcon: first with Darth Bane, then with Darth Revan, and now with the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic comics establishing that the title of "Darth" existed before Revan and Malak assumed the mantle.

Since Darth Andeddu calls Darth Krayt a heretic for abolishing the Rule of Two, it is possible he was a member of Darth Bane's order.

Since most known Darths have meaningful names, Andeddu can be seen to resemble the word "undead," which fits the state he supposedly lived in.

According to Leland Chee, Lucasfilm Ltd. has "plans" for Andeddu.[source?] This possibly referred to either his appearance in Legacy, or the October 2006 official website poll, "With Darth Bane and Darth Plagueis getting novels, which of these Sith Lords would you like to see explored in books?" Andeddu won with 45% of the vote (beating out Darth Vectivus, Freedon Nadd, Darth Sion, and Darth Nihilus).

It was suggested in Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force that Darth Andeddu may have, in fact, been the first "Darth." This may be supported by the theory that "Darth" is derived from the Rakattan words "darr tah," and therefore means "triumph over death" and Darth Andeddu, in a way, triumphed over death by keeping his deceased body animate.
