Data pits,[1] also known as command pits,[2] control pits,[3] a bridge pit,[4] or data warehouses,[5] were sunken pits located on either side of an elevated platform that bissected the bridge of certain Imperial capital ships[1] like the Imperial II-class Star Destroyers[6] and the Executor-class Star Dreadnoughts. They contained duty station consoles, and their walls were lined with control panels and monitors.[7] Those pits were designed so the flight data officers, tracking systems specialists, and combat supervisors that worked there could not see the bridge's viewports, and thus focused on their consoles without unnecessary distraction.[1]
