Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void is a novel written by author Tim Lebbon. It is a tie-in to the comic series of the same name, set around the same time as the comic's first story arc.[7] The novel was released on May 7, 2013 and included the short story Eruption by John Ostrander and an excerpt of the first part of Dawn of the Jedi: The Prisoner of Bogan by John Ostrander and Jan Duursema. The audio version is narrated by January LaVoy. The paperback edition was released on April 1, 2014.
At the time of its publication, it was among the last of the Expanded Universe (now known as Legends) novels to be released.
Publisher's summary[]
On the planet Tython, the ancient Je'daii Order was founded. And at the feet of its wise Masters, Lanoree Brock learned the mysteries and methods of the Force—and found her calling as one of its most powerful disciples. But as strongly as the Force flowed within Lanoree and her parents, it remained absent in her brother, who grew to despise and shun the Je'daii, and whose training in its ancient ways ended in tragedy.
Now, from her solitary life as a Ranger keeping order across the galaxy, Lanoree has been summoned by the Je'daii Council on a matter of utmost urgency. The leader of a fanatical cult, obsessed with traveling beyond the reaches of known space, is bent on opening a cosmic gateway using dreaded dark matter as the key—risking a cataclysmic reaction that will consume the entire star system. But more shocking to Lanoree than even the prospect of total galactic annihilation, is the decision of her Je'daii Masters to task her with the mission of preventing it. Until a staggering revelation makes clear why she was chosen: The brilliant, dangerous madman she must track down and stop at any cost is the brother whose death she has long grieved—and whose life she must now fear.
Plot summary[]
Set on the primordial world of Tython, the home of the ancient Je'daii Order — a precursor to the later Jedi — the narrative delves deep into a pivotal period in galactic history. Here, on a planet teeming with the Force, the Je'daii guide Force-sensitive beings and believe in harmonizing both the light and dark sides of the Force.
At the story's center is Lanoree Brock, an adept Je'daii Ranger. The Je'daii Council entrusts her with a mission of grave consequence: to prevent her brother Dalien's plan that threatens to consume the Tython system. Believed to have met his end during a sacred Je'daii rite known as "The Descent," Dalien resurfaces with a radical departure from Je'daii teachings.
The narrative seamlessly blends Lanoree's present quest with memories of the past. As she embarks on her mission to intercept and persuade Dalien, the reader is privy to their shared history. Insights into their rigorous Je'daii training, mutual experiences, and the deep philosophical rift that separated them are laid bare. Dalien's growing disenchantment contrasts starkly against Lanoree's unwavering commitment to the Je'daii way.
As the tale reaches its climax, a confrontation between the siblings becomes inevitable. In their final encounter, Dalien's plans are unveiled in their entirety: he wants to open a hyperspace rift even at the risk of obliterating Tython. Despite Lanoree's desperate attempts to reason with him, a battle ensues. Faced with no other choice and to save Tython, Lanoree ultimately resorts to taking her brother's life, stopping the impending disaster.
After thwarting her brother's plans, Lanoree, having taken actions to ensure the safety of Tython and the broader galaxy, is left to reflect and grapple with the weight of her choices and the familial bond that was severed.
