Dean was a title and a position of authority within educational establishments. The University of Alderaan,[1] located in the capital city Aldera on[5] the planet Alderaan.[6] had a dean who was subordinate to the position of Provost. Provosts could censure and suspend a dean when the need arose. The position of dean required appointed individuals to hold pedigree credentials.[1]
The male Halcor Raystel lacked such credentials when appointed as dean, which lead to accusations of nepotism.[1] In 22 BBY,[7] Raystel was censured and suspended by Provost Dalus Othona after a three-month scandal following Raystel's propositioning of students and abuse of the substance ryll. On the date 13:3:14, the matter was reported upon by an issue of the CoCo District Edition of the HoloNet News.[1]
The dean of the University of Coruscant, spread throughout the Fobosi District[2] on the planet[6] Coruscant, held the distinct title of Cadaeda.[2]
Shortly after the Battle of Naboo, the Leadership School on the planet Andara had an assistant dean named Aeradin, a nonhuman who was also a professor at the school.[8]
A JV-Z1/D butler droid named ZZ-4Z, or ZeeZee, was placed in the service of the Spacers Academy's Dean. He was willed to the subsequent 17 deans and amassed a repository of embarrassing trivia on the academics whilst in their service. The droid provided the cadet Mako Spince with the codes to the university's physics lab. Spince used his newfound access to steal antimatter and, as a prank, destroyed the Academy's mascot moon. Dean Horace Wyrmyr ordered the ZeeZee to be destroyed for the droid's part in the incident. Spince recovered ZZ-4Z before Wyrmyr's orders could be completed, and eventually lost the droid to the smuggler Han Solo.[4]
