"I am Chief Inspector Deemus Abrus of the Coronet Chapter of the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts! We work with local authorities to make sure various critters like this one don't end up on the black market."
―Deemus Abrus, to Crukibolt Nart Adeen[1]

Deemus Abrus was a female Twi'lek who served as the Chief Inspector of the Coronet City Chapter of the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts during the High Republic Era. Alongside Corellian authorities, Abrus participated in the arrest of the notorious Shani singer Crufeela for attempting to eat the Bonbrak Teetak. Abrus suggested sending Teetak to the Blue Peaks of Corellia in attempt to repopulate the area.[1]

Behind the scenes[]

"…this happened to me with Smeemarm and the protected species ranger Twilek in MH lolol I was like obviously they're shmanging any fool could see and yet…it is not actually that clear in the text at all DJ"
―Daniel José Older about Smeemarm and Deemus Abrus[2]

Deemus Abrus appeared in Midnight Horizon, a 2022 novel written by Daniel José Older for the the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[1] Phase I.[3] In the novel, Deemus Abrus and the Arcona Smeemarm share a moment of pointed eye contact with each other after the women collaborated to imprison Crufeela.[1] On Twitter, Older confirmed that he had written the scene to convey that Smeemarm and Abrus were "shmanging" together. Though he initially felt it was clearly portrayed, he later acknowledged some readers found the text unclear when responding to fellow Star Wars author Alyssa Wong about two of their characters—Chelli Lona Aphra and Domina Tagge—who had a similar situation happen.[2]
