- "Passive-aggressive apex predator. Wonderful."
- ―Chelli Aphra
Defels were a sentient species whose members had the ability to become almost invisible by bending light around themselves. Shortly before the Battle of Yavin, a Defel named Arleil Schous was a patron of Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina when Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi arrived in search of transport to Alderaan. Glahst Ombra was a Defel mercenary who worked with Chelli Aphra until she was killed and skinned by Magna Tolvan.
Biology and appearance[]
- "Got that creepy shadow aura trick going on with the fur."
- ―Chelli Aphra, on Glahst Ombra's hiding ability
Defels were a sentient species with brown fur, two red eyes, sharp teeth, and two elongated ears that were pointed upwards. They had two sexes, male[5] and female.[4] Defels had the ability to bend light around themselves to become practically invisible. Elderly Defel, however, tended to lose that ability.[1] Defels had a good sense of smell, being able to scent at least a molecule of blood from six miles away.[4] They could feast on sentient species, but preferred the meat liquified.[6]
Defels in the galaxy[]
- "Aren't these guys like a movable buffet for you?"
"Only if you like your meat served liquified." - ―Sister Six and Glahst Ombra
Arleil Schous was a male Defel fortune hunter who visited Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina in 0 BBY, when Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi arrived in search of a pilot who could take them to Alderaan.[2] Glahst Ombra was a female Defel mercenary who was hired by the Son-tuul Pride to join Chelli Aphra[4] on a mission to Skako Minor, where she was killed and skinned by the Imperial Lieutenant-Inspector Magna Tolvan.[6]
