The Defense Hierarchy, also known as the Chiss military command or Chiss command, was a military command of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force that consisted of its senior officers, including Admiral Ar'alani.[1]
The Defense Hierarchy selected officers of the Chiss Defense Fleet to prove themselves in order to join their ranks in a manner analagous to how the Ruling Families selected merit adoptives. Those promoted to a senior rank were stripped of family name and privilege and made part of the Hierarchy in order that they may serve all Chiss without deference or prejudice.[1]
