In 230 BBY,[2] organization of marauders known as the Nihil and their leader, Marchion Ro, deployed powerful weapons known as stormseeds, which had the power to destroy any starships traveling through hyperspace in their area of deployment. With their activation in the Outer Rim Territories, the Nihil successfully prevented the Galactic Republic from being able to reach ten full sectors of the Outer Rim, and thus secured the territory as their own,[1] which became known as the Occlusion Zone.[2] The Republic quickly learned this when their Republic Defense Coalition Outreach Fleet that was traveling to the Outer Rim to support Outer Rim worlds was destroyed in hyperspace during the stormseeds' deployment.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
The deployment of the stormseeds appeared in the second issue of the 2022 comic series Star Wars: The High Republic: Eye of the Storm, written by Charles Soule for Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia initiative.[1]
