"Thank you for aiding my daughter. Perhaps she is correct about the threat posed by those Sandpeople. It is good that steps have been taken to neutralize them."
―Huff Darklighter, to a spacer[2]

Dera Darklighter was a Human female who lived on Tatooine during the Galactic Civil War. She was the daughter of Huff Darklighter and his second wife and the younger half-sister of Rebel Alliance pilot Biggs Darklighter.

Biography[]

"Biggs's death shook Huff. He decided he wanted more heirs. His second wife decided she wasn't interested in having any more than the one she'd already borne."

During the Galactic Civil War, Dera Darklighter secretly joined the Rebel Alliance after the death of Biggs Darklighter at the Battle of Yavin. She was not enough skilled to become a pilot but her charisma and enthusiasm made her a very good speaker.[1] She thus encouraged people from Tatooine to join the Rebellion.[4] Dera also tried, unsuccessfully, to convince her father to stop working with Jabba the Hutt, in order to limit criminality and corruption on Tatooine. Therefore, she decided to use her father's connections with Jabba's henchmen to learn how to fight the Hutt, and possibly help the Rebellion. She managed to provide smuggled items and information about Imperial forces for the Alliance.[1]

In 1 ABY,[5] she had an obsession with Tusken Raiders. She employed a spacer to eradicate a tribe of dangerous Sand Peoples dwelling within a cave near their home.[2]

Behind the scenes[]

Dera Darklighter appeared as a non-player character in the 2003 video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game developed by Sony Online Entertainment and published by LucasArts,[2] prior to its closure on December 15, 2011.[6] With the release of the "Publish 25," a.k.a. the "New Game Enhancements," on November 15, 2005,[7] Dera Darklighter was incorporated into the revamped Darklighter's Estate questline.[2]

  5. According to its opening crawl, Star Wars Galaxies was set sometime after Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. The only precise time indication in the game was given by the character Ruwan Tokai, who referenced the destruction of the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin as occurring one year earlier, placing the game sometime around 1 ABY. Later, multiple elements confirmed the placement of the game storyline in 1 ABY. First, The Essential Reader's Companion established that the tie-in novel Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine took place in 1 ABY. Furthermore, the game expansion Star Wars Galaxies: Rage of the Wookiees was set during the Blockade of Kashyyyk, one year after the Battle of Yavin according to The Star Wars Holiday Special. Additionally, the main scenario of The Nightsister's Revenge from the Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game was set over a year before the Battle of Hoth (3 ABY), so around 1.5 ABY. Finally, the reference book Strongholds of Resistance placed the events of Star Wars Galaxies's Chapter 9: "The Fury of Exar Kun" one year after the Battle of Yavin. Of note, Galaxies's Chapter 11: "The Battle of Echo Base" introduced the Battle of Hoth in the game. However, the developers were quite clear that this was only intended to be a completely isolated "Star Wars Moment" without any effect on continuity for the rest of the game.
