Desolous was a Sith Lord who was active in the galaxy long before[1] the year 35 ABY.[2] The Sith Eternal cult, which was active during that time, had a custom of naming their Sith trooper detachments after ancient Sith. The 44th Legion was thus named after Desolous—a name whose true significance remained a mystery to those outside of the cult.[1]
Behind the scenes
Desolous was first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary,[1] a reference book published on December 20, 2019 and serving as a companion for the film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker.[3]
The character originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where he was depicted as a Pau'an Sith Lord named Darth Desolous, and was created as an exclusive character for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable and Wii versions of the 2008 video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, developed by Krome Studios and published by LucasArts.[4]

- ↑ Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary dates the Resistance's discovery of the Sith Eternal and their legions of Sith troopers to one year after the Hosnian Cataclysm. Since the Hosnian Cataclysm is dated to the year 34 ABY by Star Wars: Galactic Atlas, the discovery of the Sith Eternal must therefore take place in 35 ABY.
