The Diatian Clockwork was an immense ring-like structure which encircled the planetless star Diatia Major, a part of the Diatia Major system in the Southern Core portion of the Core Worlds. The Clockwork was constructed out of a metallic alloy and was etched with deep, regular grooves.
For millennia, the Diatian Clockwork attracted visitors who were struck by awe upon witnessing the structure, and it was widely believed to have been constructed by members of the Celestial species, which had disappeared from the galaxy by 30,000 BBY. Over time, many theories were put forward about the possible purpose of the structure surrounding Diatia Major.
Behind the scenes
The Diatian Clockwork was originally meant to be mentioned in the 2012 reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart; however, the sidebar that would have mentioned the structure was cut before the book's release. The information regarding the Diatian Clockwork was later released in 2013 as part of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut, a series of articles published on the StarWars.com Blog by Fry and Erich Schoeneweiss containing various cut content from The Essential Guide to Warfare.
