Dithanune was a planet[3] located in the Dithanune system, a part of the Bortele sector[1] in the Slice portion of[2] the Mid Rim.[1] It was home to the lethal predator known as the needle beast,[3] which the Defel miner and undercover Rebel Alliance spy and saboteur Thar'quan once encountered by the time of the Galactic Civil War.[4]
Behind the scenes[]
Dithanune's name was introduced via a mention of the "Dithanune needle beast" in Cracken's Rebel Operatives, a 1994 West End Games sourcebook published for use with Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. The section mentioning the creature was authored by Craig Robert Carey with J. Michael Denbo.[4] 2008's The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia subsequently established Dithanune as a distinct planet.[3] The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas placed the Dithanune system, and therefore the planet itself, in grid square R-8.[2]
